Chinaberry has a new ‘leash’ on life

A few weeks ago, Bonnie Stewart, dog program chairman, Oconee Regional Humane Society (ORHS) was walking through a local animal control and saw eight puppies. Of course there was no doubt in Bonnie’s mind — she had to rescue them and get them into loving foster homes.
Then she noticed the mother of the puppies, who was an absolutely adorable 50 pound mix breed. Being a mom herself, Bonnie realized she could not leave the mom behind so both mom and the eight puppies were on their way to a local vet for tests and a loving foster home.
It was soon noticed that the moma dog (now named Chinaberry) had a limp in her right leg that would be present and then disappear. She was a very affectionate and adorable dog who had been surrendered by her original owners when they could no longer afford to take care of her.
During her spay surgery in Watkinsville, the vet x-rayed her leg and discovered her femur was fractured. Dr. Sheldon, vet at Blue Ridge in Watkinsville, performed the surgery to correct the fracture. Her loving foster mom, Vivian, has agreed to do whatever it takes to bring Chinaberry through her postoperative period.
With everyone’s cooperation, Chinaberry is now on the road to recovery. In just a few months, she will be as good as new and we don’t want to let her down. Needless to say, the surgery was expensive and ORHS could use some help to cover her expenses.
For anyone who would like to join ORHS in giving ChinaBerry a new ‘leash’ on life, contributions will be appreciated and can be sent to Oconee Regional Humane Society, 6350 Lake Oconee Parkway, STE 102, PMB 178, Greensboro, Ga. 30642. For additional information, you can contact ORHS at (706)
