Free Landscape Lecture Series begins

Dreaming of fresh vegetables from the summer garden? The Lunchbag Landscape Series for 2012 begins with ‘Veggies-Grow It Organic!’ Monday, Feb. 27, 2012. UGA’s Dr. George Boyhan will present the latest tips on organic gardening and composting, plus information on vegetable plant varieties new and heirloom.
The free lecture takes place at the Greene County Extension Office, 1180 Weldon Smith Drive, in Greensboro from 11:30 to 1 p.m. The Lunchbag Landscape series is sponsored by Greene County Master Gardeners and Greene County Cooperative Extension. Participants can bring a lunch or buy one at the program.
The 2012 season of the popular garden lectures will have six speakers. The opening program on organic gardening will be followed by Dr. Bodie Pennisi April 18 with gardening for birds, bees and butterflies. Dr. Elizabeth Little will discuss control of pests and plant diseases Sept. 20. The Oct. 25 lecture, Snakes in Georgia, by Dr. Mike Mengak, will talk about identification and control of slithering garden visitors. Lake Oconee landscape architect, Kath Sakal will offer principles of design Nov. 15. The Dec. 11 lecture will wrap up the season with tool and equipment maintenance tips by Dr. Robert Westerfield.
