The Plantation Ladies’ Club held its February meeting at the Lake Club on the 15th. After enjoying an Asian-inspired lunch, the ladies were treated to Lake Oconee’s Hometown Community Theatre, the Greene County Players, who performed three scenes from individual plays.

Artistic Director John Copelan introduced the actors and set the scenes. The acting troupe is composed of Lake Country residents who share a passion for the theater and produce several theatrical performances each year, including comedies and dramas.

They are delighted to have Festival Hall in Greensboro as their stage and have devoted quite a bit of time upgrading the venue into a first-rate auditorium where patrons can enjoy theatre. Copelan says there are many volunteer opportunities available, both onstage and behind the curtain, ranging from technical assistants to makeup and costuming personnel.

Anyone interested in joining the theatre family should contact him at greenecountyplayers@yahoo.com or visit their website, www.greenecountyplayers.com. And of course, every actor needs an audience!

Upcoming plays include “Southern Hospitality” — a southern recipe for hilarity, “Smoke On The Mountain” — a foot-stompin’Gospel musical and “Cinderella” — the classic tale with a twist.

In other PLC business, four new members joined the group and raffle tickets were sold for chances on a beautiful handmade quilt which will be awarded in June to a lucky ticketholder. Proceeds will benefit Circle of Love and the Linus Project.
