TenderCare Clinic’s Health and Wellness Department is offering a complimentary “Living Well With Diabetes” Class Thursday, March 22 from 9 a.m. to noon in the TenderCare Clinic Conference Room. The class will address treatment and care, complications, blood glucose level, meal planning and healthy snacks, tips for eating out, medication, the necessity of physical activity, and how diabetes affects your overall health.
Diabetes is a serious disease that strikes nearly 26 million children and adults in the United States. A quarter of those with diabetes — 7 million — do not even know they have it. An additional 79 million, or one in three American adults, have prediabetes, which puts them at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes. Recent estimates project that as many as one in three American adults will have diabetes in 2050 unless we take steps to Stop Diabetes.
During the three hour class, TenderCare Provider Susan Smith, F.N.P., certified diabetes educator, will be discussing the medical issues that concern diabetic patients and their families. TenderCare Health Educators Pam Luke and Brenda Oulsnam work one-on-one with class participants to educate them on nutrition, exercise, monitoring blood sugar levels, and self-management training.
Putnam County resident Linda Ervin, a retired school nutritionist, attended the last three hour Diabetes Class conducted by TenderCare and was impressed with the amount of information she received. Irwin stated “I have been under the care of three different physicians for my diabetes and I found TenderCare’s class to be exceptional. I would highly recommend this program to anyone who is dealing with diabetes or has a family member who is diabetic.”
The class is complimentary but pre-registration is required. Call 706.454.5163 to register for the class.
