This summer the Steffen Thomas Museum of Art is offering its first Junior Docent Program where rising fourth through seventh-graders will learn what a docent is and what it takes to become one. The course which runs from 9 a.m. until noon will include a tour of the museum, several art related mini workshops, plus a variety of small sessions about art and the artist Steffen Thomas himself.
The participants will learn about sculpture, mosaics, and painting, as well as other art related subjects Monday through Thursday. Friday evening during a graduation reception there will be a wrap up of the lessons learned by the children and they will give their first Junior Docent tour to their parents, STMA staff, docents, and other guests.
This wonderful learning experience is available for only 15 students at the tuition price of $30 for museum members or $40 for non-members. Potential candidates will be scheduled for interviews by STMA docents to determine acceptance into the program. These interviews will take place at the museum.
