Greene County Habitat dedicates final houses at New Horizons

On June 10, 2012, at 6 p.m., Greene County Habitat for Humanity will dedicate the last two houses to be built in New Horizons of Ludwig Place.  The houses will become the homes for Evelyn Pope and her son John and Phong Choum and her children Kaya, Kalen, and Kameron.  Additionally, the Affiliate will celebrate the completion of the 15-house subdivision, New Horizons of Ludwig Place, with a cookout celebration.

In November 2008 GCHFH broke ground on the infrastructure for the $1.3 million Habitat Village and the following February a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the first houses built in the subdivision, to include 15 homes at completion.  The “Village” concept was developed by Habitat for Humanity International and offers numerous advantages and benefits to the homeowners. A neighborhood community which clusters the Habitat for Humanity homeowners provides a built-in support group for the families.  They are surrounded by other homeowners, all working together toward building a better environment for their families and taking pride in their homes.

The groundbreaking ceremony for New Horizons of Ludwig Place was the beginning of a new era for GCHFH and a huge ‘step in faith’ for a Habitat affiliate located in a rural county.  Seven acres of land were developed into New Horizons of Ludwig Place in less than 4 years.  This included preparing the land; developing the infrastructure of roads, sewer and utilities; building the 15 houses and landscaping the subdivision.  Theresa Kemp, Chairman of the organization, stated, “This was a monumental endeavor for our Habitat Affiliate and the people of Greene County.  It shows what can be done when the community comes together to help those in need.  We are blessed with many generous donors and hard working volunteers, and are proud of the work we have done to complete this subdivision.  It is a joy to witness the life changes for these fifteen families and to hear the laughter of the children playing in their own back yards.”  This project required the donations of time and money by many citizens of Greene County, therefore, the celebration is important to the total community.  The community is invited to attend the dedication ceremony and cookout celebration on June 10, 2012, at 6 p.m.  The ceremony will be held at New Horizons of Ludwig Place located behind Cotton’s Corner.
