Rotary honors Students of the Month

The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties is pleased to announce the following students-of-the-month for April 2012: Sara Bridges (Gatewood School), Macy Cooper (Putnam County High School), Benjamin Wood (Nathanael Greene Academy) and Timothy Hollis (Greene County High School). The students were all recognized at a recent Rotary Club meeting.

Rotarian Alex Falanga presented each student with a framed certificate. In addition, Spotlight Theatres provided movie tickets for each student and will display their picture on their screens during all movie showings this month.

Sara Bridges attends Gatewood Schools. She has earned honors in ninth, 10th and 11th grades. She is Gatewood’s 2012 Star Student. In 2011, she earned first place in region and state and in 2012, she earned first place in region for her Personal Essay. Sara is also a member of the National Honor Society. She is on the Junior Board of Directors, faculty-selected Senior Superlative, Most Spirited senior favorite, and had the lead role in the One-Act play. She has been a cheerleader throughout high school, being voted Most Spirited in 2010 and Best All Around in 2011. She is also on the Studio One competition dance team. In addition, Sara is in the drama club and choral ensemble and enjoys baking. She is in the Key Club, FCA, FBC youth group, and Lake Oconee Presbyterian youth group. She plans to attend the University of Georgia and major in theater and later transfer to New York University to become a film actress. She chose Joe DeLoach as her Teacher of the Month.  Mr. DeLoach stated that, “Sara is a delightful young lady. She is a very talented actress with a great deal of stage presence.”

Macy Cooper attends Putnam County High School. She is an honors student and is ranked in the top 10 percent of her class with a 3.7 GPA. She was the FFA vice president in 2009-2010, FFA reporter in 2010-2011, and is currently the FCA president and class treasurer. She plays soccer and golf and enjoys spending time with family and friends, knitting, and scrapbooking. She volunteers for local blood drives, campus cleanups, Rivers Alive, nursing homes, and Dinners for Veterans. She plans to attend North Georgia College and State University. She chose Becky Nipper as her Teacher of the Month. Nipper praised Macy for always giving 110%. She further added, “Macy is an inspiration to me. She is a leader among her peers and possesses a trait of compassion which is a wonderful thing.”

Benjamin Wood is a student at Nathanael Greene Academy. He received the Woodman of the World Award and Scholastic Achievement Awards in 2009, 2010, and 2011. He is an Awana Club Game Leader and on the World Changers Mission Team. Benjamin is on the golf team at NGA. He enjoys spending time with friends and family, video games, and playing the piano. He plans to attend North Georgia College and State University. Benjamin chose Nancy Long as his Teacher of the Month. Long has worked with Benjamin with the One Act Play. She commented, “Benjamin is the best back stage help that I have ever had. He is a natural actor and needs no direction.”     

Timothy Hollis attends Greene County High School. He is in the Beta Club, National Technical Honor Society, and Top 10. He is an AFJROTC executive officer, drum major for the Marching Tiger Band, and treasurer of the National Technical Honor Society. Timothy plays baseball and golf. He enjoys music and loves flying. He participates with Rotary’s Second Harvest food distribution. He plans to attend Georgia Tech and major in Aerospace Engineering. Timothy chose Master Sergeant Joe N. Miley as his Teacher of the Month. Master Sergeant Miley said, “Timothy understands the value of leadership. He was responsible for 350 students at camp and make it look easy.”
