Abbey Hospice was established in the year 2000 by experienced nurses in the community. In 2004, Abbey Hospice moved to Social Circle and built a 13-bed inpatient facility.

In its 12-year history, the hospice has provided more than 350,000 days of patient care to individuals within a 50-mile radius surrounding its home office. Counties of service include: Greene, Putnam, Morgan, Oconee, Walton, Jasper, Newton, Barrow, Henry, Rockdale and Gwinnett. Through skilled nursing care and compassionate emotional and spiritual support, Abbey proudly provides hospice services to terminally ill patients and their families.

“We began Abbey Hospice to meet the needs of this community and continue to strive to provide excellent and compassionate care,” said Joan Lipovsky, administrator of Abbey Hospice.

Abbey Hospice provides a holistic approach to hospice care in which patients and families can journey through the most difficult time in their lives with grace and dignity. In addition to medical services, Abbey Hospice provides grief support for family and friends both before and after the loss of loved one, including bereavement groups throughout its service area. The hospice frequently hosts community events such as memorial services and caregiver luncheons, allowing family members and friends to process their grief with others.

Abbey values its relationships with other community organizations. Membership in the Greene County chamber helps the hospice stay connected to the needs of the Greene County Community.
