Former University of Georgia football Team Captain and Republican businessman Burt Jones is gearing up his campaign with a rally set for July 11 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Harmony Crossing in Eatonton.
Jones, who says he has been a leader throughout his life, hopes to defeat incumbent candidate Johnny Grant and Milledgeville business man Robert “Bill” Kent in this year’s upcoming primary for Georgia’s 25th district Senate seat, which includes the counties of Baldwin, Butts, Greene, Jasper, Morgan and Putnam as well as a portion of Jones, Bibb and Walton counties.
U.S. Congressman Paul Brown be in attendance to rally the crowd as will radio personality and former presidential candidate Herman Cain, who will headline the event next Wednesday.
As a relative of Jackson, Jones has cited his leadership on the football field at the University of Georgia and his business skills as qualifiers for the state post.
“I’ve been an energetic leader all my life, making a difference in everything I put my heart in to,” Jones says on his campaign website. “I was the team captain of my football team at the University of Georgia. I have started my own business, JP Capital and Insurance Inc. … Now I want to take those leadership skills and make a difference for our district.”
While maintaining his own business, Jones also serves as the president for the Butts County Rotary Club, as a board member of the Butts County Water and Sewage Department and is an active member of the Butts County Chamber of Commerce.
Jones has said he hopes to bring new leadership to the position, which has suffered dramatically from the economic downturn over the past couple of years. Reclaiming the loss of employment in both the public and private sectors is a central reason for his candidacy.
Among others in attendance will be former University of Georgia football standouts David Greene, D.J. Shockley and Matt Stinchcomb.
The old-fashioned political rally, located at 112 Harmony Crossing, will include live entertainment from the speakers mentioned above as well as barbecue for attendees. For more information on Burt Jones or the rally event, visit www.ElectBurtJones.com or call (770) 775-6909.
