Jerry DeVore has been elected by the Greene County Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors to serve as Chairman of the Board and the Affiliate, effective July 1, 2012. Mr. DeVore replaces Theresa Kemp who has been Chairman for the past six-and-one-half years.
Kemp’s tenure as chairman, by any standard of measurement, has been remarkable in its scope and effectiveness. During her Chairmanship 22 homes have been built, housing 88 family members. A major achievement is the recently dedicated 15-home subdivision, New Horizons of Ludwig Place. This was a landmark undertaking that involved land acquisition, infrastructure development, home-site layout, and landscaping. The current operating goal is to build four homes a year.
In addition to providing executive leadership to over 300 volunteers, Theresa’s administrative initiatives included the development of a foundation and structure for the Affiliate, underpinned with policy manuals for the Board of Directors and Operating Committees.
Kemp first became a Greene County Habitat for Humanity Volunteer in 2003. Having worked in a variety of capacities, she has given the Affiliate thousands of hours of dedicated service. Spanning the life of the local organization, there have been 36 homes built to date, housing 134 family members. In 2009 the Affiliate was awarded Oconee Living Magazine’s Reader’s Choice Award as Best Volunteer Organization in the five county area.
As outgoing chairman, Kemp corresponded with all Affiliate volunteers, and Executive Director, Elaine Mathews, expressing her heartfelt thanks for their support during her time in office and commended all for the success they have achieved. She also praised other individuals, organizations, and businesses throughout the community for the ongoing support they have provided through the years.
Kemp will continue to volunteer and support Habitat for Humanity with her time, talents, and resources. She and her husband, Gary, reside at Reynolds Plantation. DeVore is a retired partner at Atlanta Capital, an investment advisory firm. Previously he was a Regional Vice-President at Travelers Companies. He brings a wealth of business and resource development expertise to the Chairman’s position. DeVore has volunteered with the local Affiliate for the past five years. He was Chairman for the annual Golf Marathon in 2008. Under his leadership the money-raising results doubled the average dollar amounts realized in prior years’ events. He has also served as Chairman of the Resource Development Committee and been a member of the Board of Directors.
DeVore has a strong passion for and commitment to, Habitat for Humanity. He is an ideal choice to promote the Vision, Mission, and Goals of the Greene County Affiliate. Jerry and his wife Judy have dual residencies: Atlanta and Reynolds Plantation.
