- The Greene County Players will present 'The Curious Savage' beginning Feb. 8 at Festival Hall in Greensboro.
The Greene County Players are ready to hit the stage once again with another outstanding performance. The local community theater group will perform “The Curious Savage” a comedic play set in 1950 that takes place in a private psychiatric hospital. The cast includes Debbie McCown, Glad Kreimann, Sherry Shutze, Arlie Collins, Gail Wilkes, Thelma Collins, Sandra Meng, Ben Stephens, Cindy Helms, Charlie Helms, and Carolyn Fears.
The Greene County Players is a community theater project, lead by John Copelan. Copelan brings to the group a passion for performing along with experience in theater.
“My earliest community theater started during my high school days in Eatonton and later in life I directed plays as a high school teacher.” Copelan said. Copelan has for the past dozen years been working in the area in Monticello, as the founding Artistic Director of the Monticello Little Theater.
“The Curious Savage” is a popular play that has entertained audiences for more than 50 years.
“Each character in the show is a burst of unique characterization.” said Copelan.
When choosing The Curious Savage as the next theatrical production for the Greene County Players, he placed a lot of thought into what type of play would not only increase the number of people in the audience but also provide a good laugh or two.
“I try and select plays I feel will be appealing to this area’s audience,” Copelan said. “They say if you are going to write, write about something you know. I feel this saying also applies to my play selection as well.”
Tickets are $15 to $20 and are available at Festival Hall or by calling (762) 243-8022 beginning Feb. 8. Performance dates are Thursday, Feb. 28 (opening night), Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 3 at 2:30 p.m. The opening night ticket price includes a Wine and Cheese reception following the performance.
