- Last year's Fat Tuesday Celebration attendees show off their Mardi Gras spirit.
The lake community is invited to join the fun at the annual Fat Tuesday Celebration chili supper on Tuesday, Feb. 12, beginning at 6 p.m. The supper will be held at 1001 Village Park Drive, Suite 107 – The Lake Oconee Community Church.
Many varieties of chili will be available along with corn bread, desserts and tea. The special evening will also feature live music by Tim Cadiere, voted Best Musician in the 2012 Lake Oconee Living Magazine Readers’ Choice Awards.
Fat Tuesday, (Mardi Gras in French) refers to the practice of eating richer, fatty foods, often pancakes, on the last night before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season. The tradition began due to the practice of using up items such as eggs, milk and sugar prior to the 40 days of Lent.
The Fat Tuesday Celebration is sponsored by the Lake Oconee Community Church, and will double as an open house to introduce the lake community to its new home at 1001 Village Park Drive. For driving directions and a map, visit the church website at locc.co. All are welcome to join the celebration. Mardi Gras masks and attire are encouraged.
