Lake Oconee Fishing Forecast

Lake Conditions – Muddy to stained water in many portions of the lake. The least stained water can be found in Richland Creek.
Lake Water Temperature – 50-55 degrees.
Largemouth Bass – FAIR/GOOD –Look for warm temperatures to warm up the stained water and get the fish into pre-spawn positions on the main lake points and flats adjacent to major coves. Spinnerbaits, jigs, small crankbaits and Carolina rigged lizards and worms are all good choices. Match lure colors to the water color which varies from place to place and fish slow. If forecasted warmer weather continues look for the bite to steadily improve.
Crappie – Excellent/GOOD – Best bet is trolling jigs and minnows in the center of the larger coves and creeks but as the stained water warms with warmer weather look for the crappie to move up to shallower locations.
Striped/Hybrid Bass/White – FAIR – Some fish are being caught using live bait as the fish begin their slow movement up the rivers in a failed attempt to spawn. Anglers are anxiously waiting for the hybrids to show up at the Wallace Dam but the water needs to hit around 60 degrees for that to happen.
Catfish – NO REPORT.
