- LOA students who qualified for First Year Honor Band and will perform in a concert in Augusta are (back row, left to right): Cory Kimbrough, Tristan Weir and Savannah Dwyer, (front row) Cole Beyer, Kelli Stevens, Daryn Minster and Lauren Ellison.
Seven fifth grade students from Lake Oconee Academy (LOA) will travel to Augusta March 23 to join musicians from 15 other area schools for the First Year Honor Band Clinic.
More than 40 LOA students auditioned and seven were ultimately selected by the chairperson of the Honor Band Committee. The 10th District Honor Band is an opportunity for outstanding first-year band students to rehearse and perform together as one band.
The seven “Band of the Titans” members will join more than 100 students for an all-day rehearsal with new music presented to them that morning and culminating in a concert at 3 p.m. The concert will be at Grovetown Middle School under the direction of guest conductor Casey Eubanks of Cherokee High School.
“It is a great honor to be chosen for this event, and the students will benefit greatly from this experience,” says Courtney Pilgrim, band director at LOA.
The students participating in the Honor Band are Cole Beyer (French horn), Savannah Dwyer (flute), Lauren Ellison (alto saxophone), Cory Kimbrough (alto saxophone), Daryn Minster (trumpet), Kelli Stevens (flute) and Tristan Weir (trumpet).
