LOA middle school student receives recognition

Lake Oconee Academy (LOA) seventh grade student Abbey Wendt was surrounded by her family and teachers as she was named the Greene County Chamber of Commerce Middle School Student of the Year at the Puttin’ on the Greene annual meeting and awards banquet at Washington Grass Farms on March 28.
Abbey was nominated by her team of middle school teachers for her exemplary academic accomplishments, service to her community, attitude and leadership abilities. In the three years Abbey has been at LOA, she has been on the High Honor roll (all A’s, 93 and above) 10 quarters and the Honor Roll (grades from 86-92) one quarter. She has received special recognition in Spanish, Physical Education and Math League, as well as receiving the 2011-12 CEO Academic Achievement Award for highest academic average in her grade level.
Abbey is involved in Jr. Beta Club, Spanish Club, Drama Club, Stock Market Club, Quiz Bowl, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Reading Bowl, basketball and soccer. Her community involvement includes projects such as Relay for Life, Rivers Alive, and the holiday canned food drive. She is an active member with her youth program at First United Methodist Church.
“Abbey is an exceptional young lady,” said Mrs. Jody Worth, LOA middle school teacher. “She is always willing to help her peers and teachers. She is dedicated, hardworking, faithful, dependable, responsible, and friendly. Her outstanding attitude and personality make her a role model and friend to many.”
