The organizers for the Creative Writing Contest sponsored by the Georgia Writers Museum are pleased to announce that Dr. Leara D. Rhodes will be the chief judge for the competition. Dr. Rhodes is the Associate Professor of Journalism and International Communication at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia. She is an experienced juror of such contests and will lend her expertise to the first Creative Writing Contest that the Georgia Writers Museum is sponsoring.
There are three other judges assisting in the selection process. Ms. Andrea Gable, Editor of Lake Oconee Living Magazine, is acting as a judge. The magazine has agreed to publish the winning entry and interview the author in an upcoming issue. A second judge is Beth Huskins, an experienced educator in Putnam and Green Counties. She organized the writing efforts and teacher collaboration for the “To Kill A Mockingbird” remembrance at the Plaza Arts Center. The third person judging submissions is Kathy Wright, member of the Greensboro Writer’s Guild. Kathy is a published author and contributor to numerous publications.
All submissions will be given to the judges without information identifying the authors. Submissions will be read by multiple judges. Judges will select their top three choices. The top choices from all judges will be sent on to Dr. Rhodes for the final decision of the winning entries. In addition to publication in Lake Oconee Living Magazine, the first prizewinner will receive $125. The second place winner will be awarded $75 with third place being given $50.
