The Eatonton Harmonettes, a local a capella barbershop chorus with all female performers, sang at the Eatonton Dairy Festival on June 1 and were asked to come back for next year’s festival. Their next performance will be at Savannah Court on Aug. 8 for the residents.

As a group they will travel to Atlanta in August to meet two other Harmony Inc. chapters for a day of coaching, idea sharing and “a blend of friendship”; after this special HELP day they will begin their work on new Christmas music to prepare for the upcoming holiday season.

During a recent meeting of the Harmonettes at Lakeside Church in Greensboro they were fortunate to have a guest coach, Put LaBarre. LaBarre is a seasoned barbershop coach and singer. Nine of the Harmonette’s 14 ladies were in attendance and they worked on “Orange Colored Sky” and “Sentimental Journey.” LaBarre also coached them on “It Is Well With My Soul.”

The ladies have been practicing and performing together for 17 months and are now up to 14 members. They look forward to entertaining in the area for a long time.

The Harmonettes are always looking for new singers as well as anyone who would be interested in coming out to coach for them occasionally.

They have two meeting locations: on first, third and fifth Thursdays they meet at Liberty Chapel in Eatonton and on second and fourth Thursdays they meet at Lakeside Church in Greensboro. Every meeting takes place from 7-9 p.m. All ladies are welcome to come to rehearsal to either listen or sing.
