Murder and mayhem, intrigue and deception. You will find them all, on a tropical island east of Eatonton where Coconut Joe and Coconut Jane welcome guests to their exclusive resort, Margaritaland. Catering to the rich and famous Margaritaland’s visitors include: surfing superstar Sandy Beachbum with his rep, Managing Moe, whose job it is to keep Sandy on top. Also, arriving from the big city, are millionaire, Thurston Howard III, and his gold-digger girlfriend, Candy Cotton. And from the wrong side of the tracks comes Lucky Numbers, a Chicago convenience store clerk who swept up a winning lottery ticket in the parking lot. They have all come to Margaritaland for rest, recreation and romance but the idyll comes to an end when someone is ‘murdered’. With help from the guests, Sergeant Lord, the best crime fighter on the island will track down the murderer.

Murder in Margaritaland is an interactive event rather than a play. Twenty major characters advance the action of the evening but there are parts for each guest. Everyone plays the game and tries to guess ‘who dun it’, with not-at-all valuable prizes presented to those who identify the murderer. Awards are also presented for Best Dressed, Best Actor/Actress and Mr. /Ms Moneybags.

All profits from the Murder Mystery Dinner will go to Elks Aidmore, a private, non-profit child welfare agency providing residential and community-based services to Georgia youth and their families. Located in Conyers, the Children’s Center offers residential and transitional living opportunities as well as therapeutic foster care and community based alternatives for youth.

The Murder Mystery Dinner is open to the public and will be held at the Elks Lodge at 1116 Lake Oconee Parkway, Suite 2070. Start time on Saturday, Sept. 14 is 6 p.m. with a buffet dinner served at approximately 7:30. The $25 per person ticket price includes appetizers and dessert. A cash bar serving a full array of beverages will be open for the evening. Tickets went on sale Aug. 1 and are available at the Lodge or from any Lake Ooconee Ladies Auxiliary member. Tickets will be available at the door, but advance purchase is suggested to give guests the chance to capture the spirit of their character before the party.
