Charity concert to be held

The Corry House is pleased to announce the second annual Concert at the Corry House. It is scheduled for Sept. 14 at the Corry House near Union Point. Two “locally famous” groups are sure to be crowd pleasers. The gates open at 5 p.m. and music starts at 6 with Pullin’ Strings. This local band is a favorite with their distinctive acoustic American sound. This act will be followed by John Dunn and the Jazzman Band. Known for their smooth jazz and blues, there will be songs that everyone will recognize and want to dance to.

This concert is a benefit for the local nonprofit organization Global Samaritans. This charity, founded by Drs. Bo and Ruby Cheves, focuses mainly on programs in southern Zambia. The Global Samaritans Children’s Home is located in Senkobo, Zambia and is home to sixty orphans. Most of these children are victims of the HIV epidemic claiming their parents. Besides caring for these children, the orphanage also has a school, church and many other outreach projects. The Global Samaritans Children’s Home recently celebrated their tenth anniversary and graduated five of their first children from high school. These young adults will now continue their education in colleges and technical schools in Zambia. This is quite an accomplishment since the average educational level is less than sixth grade.

In addition to great music and dancing under the stars, there will be dinner, desserts and beverages available for purchase. You can even bring your own picnic dinner. There will be reserved seating for $25 or you can reserve an entire table for your friends for $200. The reserved seating includes linens, beverages, appetizers and dessert. You can bring your own lawn chair and just pay $10 gate admission. The concert will proceed rain or shine. In the event of rain, the concert will take place in the new barn at the Corry House.

Come join in the fun. Bring your friends, appetite and dancing shoes to The Corry House on Sept. 14. Tickets are available online at thecorryhouse.com or globalsamaritans.org; they may also be purchased at Lakeside Baptist Church, NIBCO or at the gate. All proceeds will benefit Global Samaritans.
