Sept. 23 – Oct. 26

STMA will be hosting its fall fundraiser d’Art Shadows, on Oct. 26. From now until Oct. 25 an online Celebrity Costume Contest is ongoing as part of the event. The costume contest features 15 local “celebrities” dressed up for Halloween portraits. Each vote helps raise money for STMA’s children art programs. Tickets to the costume party are $35 and can be ordered by calling Pam at 706-342-7557. Come as your aren’t!

 

Sept. 26

OPAS will host Music Under the Pines at the Stables in Harbor Club. Singer, songwriter and pianist Lindy Gravelle brings a unique sound rooted in country music with added elements of rockabilly swing and pop to provide an entertaining and personal show that you will not want to miss. Sept. 28

Entries for the Decorate Your Bra contest are due at Pretty In Pink in downtown Eatonton. The Pray, Hope and Believe Cancer Support Group and Pretty In Pink are attempting to increase community awareness through this annual program. Sept. 30

The Blake Adams FCA 2013 Golf Classic will take place at the Cuscowilla Golf Resort on Lake Oconee. The event is hosted by PGA Touring Professional Blake Adams. Potential sponsors and players are encouraged to contact amanderson@fca.org.

October – March

Oconee Performing Arts Society will present Education and Outreach Programs. In October there will be three performances of the Georgia Boy Choir. In February the Atlanta Opera will present “En Miss Palabras” for two performances. Let’s Go Science with Professor Smart will hold two performances in March. Oct. 3 – Dec. 23

The Greene County Christmas Stocking Fund has announced the following dates for application acceptance, volunteer training and donation sorting:

Oct. 3 (10 a.m.–noon): Computer training for data entry volunteers

Oct. 3-4 (2-6 p.m.): Applications accepted at FUMC in Union Point

Oct. 5 (10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) – 6 (1:30-4:30 p.m.): Applications accepted at Athens Tech Computer Lab

Dec. 3 (1-4:30 p.m.): Clothes sorting and packing (Walkers Church)

Dec 4: Clothes bags moved to County Building (3-4 volunteers needed)

Dec 16: Initial toy sorting and counting, shopping if needed

Dec. 17-18: Toys for Tots collection, final toy sorting

Dec. 19 (9 a.m.-noon): Distribute senior gifts at Greensboro Senior Center (3-4 volunteers needed)

Dec 20: Pack toys

Dec 21: Load trucks

Dec 23 (10 a.m.-1 p.m.): Distribution to the families with children at GCHS

Oct. 5

The second annual Fall Family Festival and Titan Trot will be held at Lake Oconee Academy, off Carey Station Road in Greensboro. The 5K will begin at 8 a.m. and the Fun Run taking place at 9:30. Festival activities will take place from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at t he baseball field. For more information visit www.lakeoconeeacademy.org and select “Coming Events”.

 

Oct. 7

Rep. Broun will have field representatives available to meet with residents at the following locations: Madison-Morgan Chamber of Commerce, 115 E. Jefferson St., 10 a.m.-noon; Eatonton City Hall, 201 N. Jefferson Ave., 2-4 p.m.

 

Oct. 12

OPAS is pleased to present American Idol finalist Melinda Doolittle in a special concert at Festival Hall in Greensboro. Melinda, along with Jim Grey and the Session Players Big Band, will bring R&B and Jazz to Lake Oconee. The first Oconee Idol winner will also perform before the show.

 

Oct. 13

The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties is planning a fun-filled, family friendly event on beautiful Lake Oconee. Oct. 19

STMA will be hosting a family workshop: Celebrating the Moment through Image and Words. The workshop will be held at the Steffen Thomas Museum of Art, 4200 Bethany Road, Buckhead, and will run from 10 a.m.-noon. The workshop is meant for a partnership of one child and one adult or two children and one adult. Learn to use cell phones to create memorable art. If you don’t have a camera on your cell phone there will be phones to spare. Adults $10, children $8 (members receive a $2 discount and those in financial need may attend free). The Pilot Club of Greene County is once again revving up for their annual Meadowcrest Arts and Crafts Market at the Greene County High School in Greensboro.
