Rotary honors September Students-of-the-Month

The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties is pleased to announce the following students-of-the-month for September 2013: Connor Richter (Gatewood Schools), Tierra Myrick (Putnam County High School), Rachel Moncrief (Nathanael Greene Academy) and Emilie Garcia (Greene County High School). The students were recognized at a recent Rotary Club meeting. Rotarian Bob Massey presented each student with a framed certificate. In addition, Spotlight Theatres provided movie tickets for each student and will display their picture on their screens during all movie showings this month.

Connor Richter is a senior at Gatewood Schools. He is the son of Dr. Scott and Kim Richter. An honor student, Connor has achieved academic honors awards and was selected into the National Honor Society and in to the President’s Education Award Program. Throughout high school, he has earned academic awards in Biology, Spanish, English, Physical Science, Georgia History, Mathematics, World Cultures, Literature and Pre-Algebra. Connor has spent more than 200 hours of community service and earned the Boy Scouts rank of Eagle Scout. He was the 2010 SGA President and the 2011 Class Treasurer. Connor participates on Gatewood’s football, basketball, track, soccer and tennis teams. Connor plans to attend the University of Georgia where he will major in Journalism and Communications. He hopes to one day be a sports broadcaster for ESPN. Connor chose Martha Mock as his Teacher-of-the-Month.

Tierra Myrick attends Putnam County High School. She is the daughter of Deborah Andrews and the late Orris Myrick Jr. Tierra is an AP Scholar and earned fourth place in the Literary Girl’s Essay competition. She is a member of FBLA where she is the FBLA Secretary. Tierra participated in the Kennesaw State Math Competition. She is on the Farmer’s And Merchant’s Bank Junior Board of Directors. She is on the cross-country and tennis teams and participates in musical theatre. Tierra has given back to her community by helping with the LifeSource Food Distribution and as a tutor for the primary and elementary schools. Tierra plans to attend the Georgia Southern University to study anesthesiology and have a career as an anesthesiologist’s assistant or nurse anesthetist. Tierra chose Dr. John Lamon as her Teacher-of-the-Month.

Rachel Moncrief is a student at Nathanael Greene Academy. She is the daughter of Lane and Leanne Moncrief. A member of the Beta Club, Rachel earned Highest Overall GPA in the 11th grade class and multiple highest GPA and teacher’s awards throughout high school. She is currently president of the senior class and was also president of her junior class. She enjoys playing softball and cheerleading. She has been involved in NGA’s spring musical, literary and One Act Play. Rachel is involved in the community by helping care for elderly church member’s lawns, delivering Christmas grams and participating in canned food drives. She plans to attend Georgia College and State University and major in accounting. Rachel chose Dr. Jessica Heuer as her Teacher-of-the-Month.

Emilie Garcia attends Greene County High School and is the daughter of Victor and Terrie Garcia. She is an honor student with a 4.0 GPA. Emilie is a member of the Beta Club, president of the FFA, group leader in FCA, member of FCCLA, FBLA and UGA Leadership. The UGA Leadership program offers her an opportunity to participate in many community service projects such as an Easter Egg Hunt, Feed the Hungry, etc. She enjoys fishing, being part of the clubs at GCHS, spending time with her family and doing community service work for her community. She plans to attend a four-year college or university, possibly Georgia College and State University or Athens Tech. Her career goal is to be a radiologist. Emilie chose Constance Reid as her Teacher-of-the-Month.
