For the first time in a long time, rain hit the streets of North Main Street during the annual Rock and Roll Cruise In. Despite the rain, cars and spectators still attended the event.

The event, produced by the Georgia Classic Cruisers Car Club and the Main Street Greensboro program, is a downtown favorite each year. Car Club event co-chair Barney Ross reported that there were 28 visiting cars and four club cars in town on Saturday. The turn out, due to the wet weather, may have been small. However, visitors traveled from surrounding towns, and entered their cars in the popular Rock ‘n Roll Cruise In.

Greensboro’s Rock ‘n Roll Cruise In is known for the wide array of vintage vehicles it draws from across the state and this year’s best of show was Union Point native Ronnie Yearwood’s John Deere Tractor with the Big Block Chevy Engine.

“Despite the weather, we were still pleased with the small turn out,” states Barney Ross, Georgia Classic Cruiser member. “The Cruise In is one of Greensboro’s most anticipated events of the year, and many people around the county still came out with umbrellas to view the few cars we had in the show.”

Event sponsors Jimmy Britt Chevrolet, Buick, GMC showed support by having a host of brand new cars and trucks on display for spectators.

On the Court House lawn stage The Grains of Sand Band performed hits from the 50’s and 60’s live for the first part of the event. Guests were having a good time as the band crooned favorites like “Carolina Girls” and “I Love Beach Music”. A few children enjoyed hula-hoops on the courthouse lawn, in the rain, as the band played.

The shops of downtown Greensboro were open late, and ready to meet the visitors in town for the Cruise In. Many shops featured window decorations especially for the event. Diners at The Yesterday Café stepped back in time as they were waited upon by a host of pink ladies, girls in poodle skirts and boys wearing saddle oxfords. The Main Street Café offered spectators special “Race Car” desserts and even to go boxes in the shape of classic cars. The styles around town were suited to match the classic cars that lined the streets.
