Lake Oconee Fishing Forecast, Oct. 3, 2013
Published 7:15 am Thursday, October 3, 2013
Lake Conditions – The Lake is stained up the rivers and lightly stained in the remainder of the lake.
Lake Water Temperature – 78-80 degrees.
Largemouth Bass – FAIR/GOOD – The slightly lower water temperatures from recent cooler weather has the fish thinking shallow water and feeding. The shallow water bite will only get better as the water temperature drops don through the 70s. Some fish are staging on the points and moving in around grass and docks. Zoom trick worms, plastic frogs, small crankbaits and Shaky head plastics will catch fish. The fish have shallow water on their minds even though some fish can still be found in deeper water locations and will hit deep crankbaits and Carolina rigged plastics. Main lake points are a good place to try now.
Crappie –GOOD –The crappie remain in the lake’s underwater trees where they are biting both jigs and minnows but they will soon be moving out of the trees to feed on schools of shad and trolling will again be the best option for anglers.
Striped/Hybrid Bass/White – POOR – A few fish are being caught using spoons and umbrella rigs on and around humps but that action is slow.
Catfish – GOOD – The catfish are located in the main lake, larger coves and creeks. Early and late in the day will find the catfish most active. Cut baits of shad and bream or live shad and live bream are the best for larger channel, blues and flathead catfish. As the water temperature drops look for the fish in shallower locations in the larger coves.
