Oct. 1 – Nov. 8

Tri-County EMC is hosting a design contest for its 2013 Christmas Card. Students grades Kindergarten through fifth who live in a household served by Tri-County EMC may enter. For more information visit www.tri-countyemc.com.

 

Oct. 31

Downtown Trick of Treat will be held again this year in Greensboro. Children 12 and under should be accompanied by an adult and everyone is encouraged to come check out all the downtown spooky spirit. When children sign in they will receive a trick or treat bag, a treat and a list of participating businesses.

 

Nov. 6

Members of the Greensboro Writer’s Guild will read from the 15th volume of the writer’s collection of poems and stories.  The event will be held at the Carriage House at Harbor Club from 2-4 p.m. For more information e-mail Lisa Wheeler at herbsandblossoms@gmail.com.

 

The Auxiliary of Saint Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro is holding their annual Christmas open house in the hospital gift shop at 1201 Siloam Road from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.  A wonderful variety of holiday items at wonderful prices will be available plus complimentary homemade refreshments.  All proceeds benefit the hospital.

 

Nov. 7

Madison Artists Guild will host the opening of MAG’s XLG Show Vessels and Views at Town 220 Restaurant and Gallery from 6 -8 p.m. The public is invited to meet the artists and share light refreshments. Nov. 9

The Pilot Club of Greene County is once again revving up for their annual Meadowcrest Arts and Crafts Market at the Greene County High School in Greensboro. The Lake Oconee Elks Lodge No. 2849 is pleased to announce its annual turkey-ham shoot competitions. The event begins at 9:30 a.m. and will be held at The Lake Oconee Gun Club on Sparta Highway 16 at Pea Ridge Road in Putnam County. There are three classes: Youth (7-17), Ladies and Men divisions. Youth division shoots free of charge; $5 per turkey shot, $8 per ham shot. There is a course for the youth division in gun and shooting safety and those who sign up will receive a certificate and free lunch. All shells, ear protection and goggles will be provided at no cost so don’t bring your own shells. Guns will be available for those who do not bring their own; 12, 20 and 410 gauge only.

Prizes will be awarded to each string of 10 shooters and you may shoot as often as you like. Refreshments will be available. All proceeds will benefit the Elks Scholarship Fund and Wounded Warrior Foundation.

 

The Oconee Regional Humane Society will host its first Furball. The Black Tie Optional event will feature a buffet meal and live music. Tickets are available for $75 per person or $850 for a reserved table of 10. For more information call 706-454-1508.

 

Nov. 10

St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital invites everyone to attend a Community Open House from 2-5 p.m. to tour the new hospital at 5401 Lake Oconee Parkway. Refreshments will be served. A shuttle service will be provided from the parking lot to the facility for those in need.

 

Nov. 12

Georgia’s DNR Wildlife Resources Division will hold an open house meeting Oct. 12 in Greensboro at the Greene County Library in regards to the management of white-tailed deer.

 

Nov. 16

First Call Pregnancy Center will host A Night at the Movies with Gene Yaws, a fundraiser intended to support the center’s various support programs. Nov. 23

The Greene County Chamber of Commerce will present T. Graham Brown in concert at Festival Hall beginning at 7:30 p.m. Watch for further details on the event and visit www.greeneccoc.org for updates.

 

Nov. 24 – Feb. 16

The ice skating rink will be open at Reynolds Plantation. The rink is open to the general public: $30 for adults; $20 for ages 12 and under.

 

Dec. 3 – Dec. 23

The Greene County Christmas Stocking Fund has announced the following volunteer dates:

Dec. 3 (1-4:30 p.m.): Clothes sorting and packing (Walkers Church)

Dec 4: Clothes bags moved to County Building (3-4 volunteers needed)

Dec 16: Initial toy sorting and counting, shopping if needed

Dec. 17-18: Toys for Tots collection, final toy sorting

Dec. 19 (9 a.m.-noon): Distribute senior gifts at Greensboro Senior Center (3-4 volunteers needed)

Dec 20: Pack toys

Dec 21: Load trucks

Dec 23 (10 a.m.-1 p.m.): Distribution to the families with children at GCHS

Dec. 6-7

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. the third annual Festival of Trees will take place at Festival Hall in Greensboro. Tickets are available at the door, $5 for adults, $3 for youth eight to 18 and free for children under eight.

Dec. 18

OPAS is honored to present Emmy award nominated Michael Londra with an evening of Christmas from Ireland told in song, dance and the classic stories of his youth at Festival Hall in Greensboro. Tickets go on sale Sept. 30. Visit www.opas.org for more information.

 

February – March
