Oconee Regional Humane Society to host Fur Ball

Published 8:23 am Monday, October 28, 2013

The first annual gala event to benefit the Oconee Regional Humane Society is planned to be both fun and flashy; this Black Tie Optional event will feature a buffet meal from At Your Service, and entertainment by a band everyone loves – The Harmony Road Band. ORHS’ vision is for the annual gala to become a “See and Be Seen” party among Lake area movers and shakers. Tickets are still available for $75 per person or $850 for a reserved table of ten and may be purchased at the ORHS Adoption Center. The center is open 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

The Fur Ball will support the Spay/Neuter program with a goal of sterilizing 300 area cats and dogs from low-income families at a cost of $15,000. Spay/Neuter programs are the most effective way to reduce the number of homeless or unwanted pets in the community. Four levels of sponsorship are still available, with Higdon House Inn and At Your Service leading off as presenting sponsors, other sponsors include BankSouth and the Mitchell Family.

ORHS is dedicated to improving the lives of cats and dogs in the community. They accomplish this through a variety of programs, including, but not limited to:

  • Finding permanent loving homes for animals in their care
  • Providing no cost spay or neuter services for pets of low income residents in the
  • community
  • Helping feed the pets of needy families
  • Teaching the public about compassion and responsibility toward all animals.

ORHS’ work is funded entirely through grants, donations and fundraising events. The event will be Nov. 9. For more information call the ORHS office at 706-454-1508.
