Rotary honors October Students-of-the-Month

The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties is pleased to announce the following students-of-the-month for October 2013: Lindsey Green (Gatewood Schools), Brian Scarborough (Putnam County High School), Haley Lord (Nathanael Greene Academy) and Lucy Marshall (Greene County High School). The students were recognized at a recent Rotary Club meeting. Rotarian Bob Massey presented each student with a framed certificate. In addition, Parkside Main 8 Theatre provided movie tickets for each student and will display their picture on their screens during all movie showings this month.

Lindsey Green is a senior at Gatewood Schools. She is the daughter of Jeff and Stacey Green. Lindsey is a Hope Scholarship recipient with a 3.706 GPA. She is enrolled in honors classes and dual enrollment at GMC. She enjoys dance and is an elite dancer at The Vibe Dance Center. She is a member of the Anchor club, Honor Society and is a blood drive volunteer worker. Lindsey plans to attend Georgia State University where she will major in psychology and study dance. Lindsey chose Martha Mock as her Teacher-of-the-Month.

Brian Scarborough attends Putnam County High School. He is the son of Brian and Kym Watson. Brian has achieved a GPA of 3.48 and has passed the AP English/Language Arts exam. He is currently participating in dual enrollment with CTGC and has passed various honors classes such as Chemistry, Civics, World History, Math 1 and Math 2. Brian enjoys listening to music, writing, attending bonfires with friends and reading great books. He has participated in River of Life and assisted in leading small groups at church and volunteering at Chrysalis. He plans to attend a smaller college to take his core classes before transferring to Point University where he will double major in Biblical Studies and Preaching Ministries. He plans to pursue whatever job field he feels God is calling him to. Brian chose Dr. John Lamon as his Teacher-of-the-Month.

Haley Lord is a student at Nathanael Greene Academy. She is the daughter of Bobby and Mary Jane Lord. Haley is an honor roll student and was also selected as student of the quarter. She is the president of the Beta Club, president of the FCA, vice president of her senior class, captain of the cheerleading and softball teams and is a coach to the C-team and JV cheer squads. Haley enjoys playing softball and cheering. She, too, gives back to her community by volunteering with Vacation Bible School, school clean-up days, shoeboxes for Samaritans Purse, Empty Stocking Fund and canned food drives. She plans to attend Georgia Regents University and study dental hygiene and then earn a degree in dentistry. Haley chose Nancy Long as her Teacher-of-the-Month.

Lucy Marshall attends Greene County High School and is the daughter of Sam and Meg Marshall. She is an all A honor student who takes honors AP classes. In 10th and 11th grades, Lucy achieved the highest average in core and non-core subject areas. She is currently a dual enrollment student at Athens Tech. Lucy is the vice president of FBLA, senior leader for Beta Club, Entrepreneurship program leader and member of the Interact Club. She was on the softball team in ninth and 10th grade. She enjoys crafts, spending time with family, reading, studying and church activities. Lucy is a volunteer at the Boswell Parker Nursing Home and volunteers for service activities with FBLA, FCCLA, FFA, Beta Club and Interact Club. She plans to pursue a degree in occupational therapy. Lucy chose Gillian Gunter as her Teacher-of-the-Month.
