Reynolds Plantation is pleased to announce recipients of its Thirds Quarter Employee Awards for 2013. Christy Steverson, director of human resources, has been named Leader of the Quarter, while Marchelle Walker, guest services representative, and Derek Chriscoe, JR staff accountant, have been named Employees of the Quarter.
A graduate of Georgia College and State University, Christy Steverson began her career with Reynolds Planation in April of 1998 as an employee with the marketing department. Steverson moved to the human resources department the following February where she served as the staffing coordinator and eventually as recruiting manager. In 2006, she received her Professional Certificate in Human Resources, and shortly was promoted to human resources manager. Since June 2011, Steverson has held the title of director of human resources where she oversees and manages all HR operations, recruiting, and new hire applicants.
“My position allows me to interact with every employee at Reynolds Plantation,” says Steverson. “I have the opportunity of meeting applicants and helping them fulfill their career goals. We have a great culture at Reynolds Plantation. Employees and departments work great together to make everyone successful and feel as if they are a part of an extended family.”
Outside of work, Steverson is very active with First United Methodist of Eatonton, working with children and adult music programs. “Music has always been an important part of my life. I have always enjoyed the art of music both in playing instruments and singing,” says Steverson. “My family has always been musically involved in the church and the community.” She is a member of the FUMC Eatonton Chancel, Handbell and Children Choirs, as well as a member of the Goodwill Oconee Advisory Board.
Steverson most importantly enjoys spending time with her family: husband, Robert, and children, Mary Grace and Jackson.
Marchelle Walker has greeted visitors of Reynolds Plantation since January 2007 as guest services representative. Working in the department allows Walker to meet and interact with new people daily. “The satisfaction that I receive from assisting members and guests with their stay is a great feeling,” says Walker.
Along with members and guests, Walker communicates with many departments to ensure requests are met for all visitors. “Interacting with my managers, co-workers and the other departments throughout the company is a continuous delight for me.”
Before starting at Reynolds Plantation, Walker was a desk clerk for a corporate owned hotel chain in Madison. She feels the knowledge she gained in that hospitality role helped to prepare her for her current position.
Outside of Reynolds Plantation, Walker is currently pursuing her Associates Degree in Business Administration. She enjoys reading, learning new information about computer software and playing her flute. Walker also stays busy taking care of her new adopted cat, Turnup.
Derek Chriscoe began at Reynolds Plantation in May 2011 as a lifeguard with the recreation department. After working there and a brief stint at the wellness desk at The Lake Club, he later transferred to the accounting department after seeing a job posting for a JR staff accountant position in February 2012. “Having worked in various areas throughout the company, I truly value the unique possibility to see many different areas of business,” says Chriscoe.
Prior to working with Reynolds Plantation, Chriscoe was a student athlete at Shorter University where he played shortstop and third base for the university’s baseball program. He received an undergrad in Business Administration and Spanish Language/Culture from Shorter University and later went on to receive his MBA from the school as well.
Chriscoe’s love of recreation drew him to the community and has served as a major benefit for him during his spare time. Chriscoe enjoys a number of outdoor activities that include cycling, baseball and camping. He also loves enjoying the waters of Lake Oconee through canoeing and fishing as well.
