The St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation recently announced that the Inaugural Hospital Gala will be held at the Ritz Carlton Lodge Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m.
“This year’s theme, which is Heart and Soul, was very fitting because the hospital is the heart of the community, it offers state-of-the-art cardiac diagnostic services and the event will be held on Valentine’s weekend,” said Riezl Baker, a hospital Foundation board member.
Baker and her husband Ted are event chairs and are busy organizing it with 13 committee members who are all local residents dedicated to support the hospital.
“We have a terrific committee and there’s a lot of excitement in the community. We look forward to building this highly anticipated event every year,” Baker added.
All the proceeds from the fundraiser, which will be a dinner, dance and auction, will go to the hospital Foundation’s Capital Campaign. The Foundation was tasked to raise $8 million to furnish and equip the new state-of-the-art hospital, and they have reached 75 percent of the goal to date.
“We still need to furnish some surgical services and the nuclear medicine room, which is important in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and cardiac-related diseases,” said Rick Wolfert, chair of the Foundation Board. “In addition, we hope to install a permanent MRI room in the future as we raise more money.”
St. Mary’s funded the $42 million to build the facility, which opened Nov. 25.
“I was so impressed after touring the hospital. I’m so proud to have a high quality hospital in our community,” commented Lynn Blair, a Gala committee member and owner of the Magnolia Art Gallery at Lake Oconee Village. “We need to support it as a community and be proud that we have it in our backyard,” she said.
Sponsorship opportunities are available for individuals and businesses. For more information on the event please contact Riezl or Ted Baker at 706-347-2625, 706-340-5554, e-mail rbaker@plantationcable.net.
