Spaghetti Night at the Pete Nance Boys & Girls Club saw some new faces, pilots transitioning from the cockpit to the cafeteria. The pilots and their wives energetically scooped delicious spaghetti into bowls for around 160 young members of the club.

Captain Charles Finch, a retired Delta pilot and 2014 Pete Nance Club Volunteer of the Year recruited his fellow flyers and their wives to join in the popular weekly event.

Late every Thursday afternoon, three large pans of spaghetti were picked up at a local restaurant by volunteers and delivered to the Greensboro Elementary cafeteria, adjacent to the Pete Nance Club. A local Italian restaurant supplied the spaghetti as a gift to the boys and girls.

Every Thursday at 5 sharp, things started accelerating. Cafeteria tables were set and servers took their places. Two young members of P.E.A.K., the fifth through ninth grade Boys & Girls Club program housed at the middle school, stood ready to carry trays laden with bowls of spaghetti to all of the hungry kids.

Kindergarteners were served first and the grade level groups progress in and out of the cafeteria throughout the hour. Last to dine are the middle school teen P.E.A.K. members. It’s a fast and furious event, packed with lots of fun and conversation. The busiest volunteer of the afternoon was Captain Alan Campbell, who ran the rows of tables, sprinkling parmesan cheese into each bowl upon request.

Pete Nance Teen Club volunteers handled the clean-up.
