- L to r: Kevin Lewis and Arron Jones of the Pete Nance Boys & Girl Club were among the early round winners in the Elks Club Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest. Club participants are coached by Howard Epps.
The Pete Nance Boys & Club proudly salutes members, Kevin Lewis Jr. (age 6) and Arron Jones (age 11) two of four club winners of the local Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest sponsored by the Lake Oconee Elks Lodge. The contest was held at the Lake Oconee Academy. Hoopsters from Greensboro Elementary, Greene County Recreation, and schools from Morgan and Hancock counties also competed at the event.
The opportunity to enter the contest came in late January. Howard Epps volunteered to take on the project by hosting a special Pete Nance Club competition for the club in the Greensboro Elementary gymnasium. Four Pete Nance Club champions emerged from this event, including Lewis, Jones and also brothers, Derrick and Adarius Walker. All four young men participated in the local Elks Club competition at Lake Oconee Academy.
The Elks Club competition at LOA produced four winners. Two in this group were Lewis and Jones, of the Pete Nance Club. They recently participated in the District Elks Club Hoops Contest, on Saturday, Jan. 25, in Covington. Lewis won his age group and advanced to the Regional Elks Club “Hoops” Tournament at Newton County High School. Congratulations to all of these young athletes.
