Team members are: Ambernisha and Na'Cara Deveraux; Divad, David and Ta-Tianna Dewitt; Dasiania Bell, Mya Jackson, Daijha Moon, Arkiyus Wright, Kzon Dennis, Melody Davis, Kirsten Reese, Kursten Aiken and Ysaias and Kosi Sumpter.

After 33 workouts and three 5K races, the 15 Greene County Tri-Kids are heading down the homestretch of their 2013-2014 season. On Saturday, they participated in the BRAG Spring Tune Up bike ride in Madison. The kids were given the option of riding 10, 14 or 24 miles. Two Tri-Kids chose the 14-mile route while the rest chose the 24-mile route. The coaches were proud of the entire team but especially their two 9-year old Tri-Kids, Arkiyus Wright and Kzon Dennis. With maps in hand, Arkiyus and Kzon navigated the 24-mile trip through the area surrounding Madison and arrived at the finish line with huge smiles and looks of relief.

After running their 5K races this year in everything from rain to 22-degree temperatures, the Tri-Kids were finally rewarded with a beautiful day for the BRAG ride. The coaches would like to thank two of our team mothers, Jacqueline Evans and Shawanda Rhodes, for driving the SAG vehicle to help keep tabs on the kids during the ride. The team would also like to thank Dr. Ramona Warren for her excellent presentation on positive energy and thinking.

The Greene County Tri-Kids team is now ready to close its 2013-2014 season with three triathlons. The first is the UGA Early Bird triathlon this Sunday where they have entered an adult race; they will then travel to Eagle Ranch in Flowery Branch on May 10 to compete with the other Georgia Tri-Kids teams in the second Tri-Kids Triathlon. Finally on May 28 they will be travelling to Clermont Florida for five days where they will participate and have exclusive use of a Triathlon training camp facility that is owned and run by professional triathlete coach John Hovius. During that time, they will also compete in the AAA Triathlon youth race.

The coaches are extremely proud of the team’s work ethic as they average 98.14 percent attendance at workouts and, in the three years of existence in Greene County, every Tri-Kid has finished every race they have entered. In addition, to remain on the team the kids must make academic progress and the team’s grades have now improved to an average of 85.47 percent, so a huge expression of congratulations is in order for the kids.

The team consists of kids from ages 9 to 18 from all five schools in Greene County and the coaches are extremely proud of how well the kids support and encourage each other.
