Lake Oconee Fishing Forecast
Lake Conditions – The lake is stained up the rivers and clearing elsewhere
Lake Water Temperature – 70-75 degrees
Largemouth Bass – GOOD – Fish are completing their spawn but are remaining shallow early in the day due to the ongoing shad spawn. Small crankbaits, flukes and spinnerbaits fished along banks, seawalls and rip-rap will catch fish during the early morning shad spawn. Once the early morning shad spawn has stopped just fish the same area but move out a little deeper from the bank or fish the docks. Bass will soon begin migrating back to their home territory which might be shallow or deep.
Crappie – FAIR/GOOD –The crappie bite is still pretty good even though the spawning activity is over. The crappie have begun their slow migration away from the banks and to bottom brushpiles and to the underwater trees. Some fair catches continue for anglers shooting jigs under lake docks.
Hybrid/Striped/White Bass – GOOD – The fish are still in front of the Wallace Dam in good numbers. Live bait is the best choice for catching those fish. The fish will soon start moving out to open water and can be found around humps from the pipeline to the dam.
Catfish – GOOD – Some big catfish have moved into the larger main lake coves. The catfish spawn is underway and they are also feeding on the shad that are now spawning. Smaller catfish can be caught on worms and other catfish bait but the larger catfish will fall best for live bait, cut bait or bream heads.———————————–
