Two LOTA Tri-Level teams win state USTA Championships

Two teams from the Lake Oconee Tennis Association have won their divisions at the USTA Georgia Tri-Level State Championships held Aug. 22-24 in LaGrange.
The Women’s 40 and over 3.0/3.5/4.0 team, captained by Terri Riley and the Men’s 55 and over 3.0/3.5/4.0 team, captained by Larry Kludt battled heat indexes of more than 105 degrees and teams from tennis associations across Georgia in round robin tennis play to win the title of state champions! Tri-level play consists of three levels of doubles play for each team match.
The women’s team includes the following players: Terri Riley – Captain, Elizabeth McLendon. Kathy Mitchell, Kathy Culpepper, Tammy Smith, Diane Brahn, Brenda Bray, Ellen Ellard, Deborah Darugar, Gail Hartley Watkins, Donna Conner, Marsha Ott, Tracy Hayden, Lynn Hudson, Cindy Hale and Sue Stuckey. The members of the men’s team are: Larry Kludt – Captain, Don Hill, Rick Cook, Mark Engel, Robert Fasnacht, Roger Meyer, Roger Fields, Gordon Bush, Michael Riesmeyer and Ron Gilliland.
Both teams are eligible to compete in the Section Championships for USTA Southern against the champions from Tennessee, Mississipi, Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, Kentucky, North and South Carolina and Georgia. This tournament will begin Oct. 17 in Jackson, Miss. and the Section Champions will compete in National USTA Championships in early 2015.
