Photography classes offered at Plaza Arts Center

EATONTON — Noted local professional photographer George Dissmeyer is presenting two classes this fall: Digital Black and White Photography on Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Close-up Photography on Tuesday, Oct. 21, from 7 to 9 p.m.

In describing Black and White photography, Dissmeyer noted, “It requires a special way of seeing scenes and subjects, thus, composition will be emphasized.”

The material covered will include: Image tones recorded in Jpeg, RAW and color; Limitations of shooting black and white in Jpeg; Advantages of shooting in color and converting to B&W; Shooting in RAW plus Jpeg; In-camera color filters for B&W; Exposure and reading the camera’s LCD and histogram; B&W contrasts of brightness, texture and sharpness; Using pictorial elements in composition; Understanding light and light direction in B&W; Sepia, color and B&W, and artistic B&W photos; Image processing with Photoshop or Photoshop Elements.

In discussing Close-up Photography, Dissmeyer noted that, “Flowers, butterflies and other small subjects display a lot of beauty, color, texture and surprises that can be captured by close-up photography.”

The topics covered include: Camera exposure settings; Camera LCD and camera histogram; Depth of field, manual vs. auto focus; Camera accessories, cable release; Extension tubes, teleconverters, tripods; Standard lens vs. macro lenses and their use; Fill flash, studio set-ups and lighting; Photo composition; Image processing in Photoshop.

Dissmeyer will lead a power point discussion along with a variety of images with a discussion of how they were taken and processed. There will be ample time for questions and discussion. His work includes recent Peoples Bank calendars, images used in the Putnam County Welcome Center video, Chamber of Commerce and in Georgia Lake Country books, magazines and advertisements. He has done photography for the U.S. Forrest Service and Nature Conservancy in South Carolina.
