LAKE OCONEE — The Lake Oconee Tennis Association (LOTA) awarded three tennis camp scholarships to local students this summer. These scholarships included week long tennis instruction from Peter Burwash International tennis professionals James Derrick and Dave Neuhart and Reynolds Plantation Junior Coaches Matt Marin and Elliott Elm at Reynolds Plantation Lake Club Tennis Center. The children were also given a right sized tennis racket so the children can continue playing tennis after the camp was through.

The scholarships grew out of a relationship with Susan Spearman, a physical education teacher at Greensboro Elementary who worked with LOTA to set ups a series of introductory tennis lessons for children at the school. The students were awarded based on their potential, their interest in the game and their school citizenship. Yordi Perez and Adrianna Brown were selected by Susan Spearman from Greensboro Elementary and Duncan Reber was selected by Ron Kalpak who volunteers with the Tennis Club at Lake Oconee Academy.

All of the children enjoyed their lessons immensely and plan to continue playing tennis with their friends and family.

LOTA is a 501(c)3 organization devoted to promoting tennis within the Lake Oconee area. Information about joining LOTA can be found at their website www.lotatennis.com.
