- Collier wore the tiny suit for just one minute, but it was enough to make a video go viral across the country.
Eric Hart just wanted to help his son Collier, who has been hospitalized since being born prematurely in July. But since Hart isn’t a doctor, he had to rely on the only skills he had at hand.
With Collier set for his first Halloween, Hart, a professional prop maker from North Carolina, decided to make his son a costume that exemplified the type of fight his son exhibited every day.
“Collier’s hooked up to the machines all the time and Iron Man, he built the suit because he needed a machine to keep himself alive,” Hart told itv.com. “I just thought if he had a little Iron Man suit he could come home with us.”
Hart looked online and found the right pattern and size for his infant. He made a video of himself creating the costume that consisted of face mask out of foam, a red onesie and some yellow fabric for the rest of the costume.
The video was just going to be for family and friends, but once Hart posted it, it quickly went viral. He soon was getting responses from all over the country from people who wanted to encourage him and Collier.
Hart said the video seems to have resonated with people who’ve been through similar battles involving their own children. But it has also given his family a lift during the emotionally draining time.
“When he’s older, he’ll be able look back and hopefully see that his parents have basically been giving him a normal life ever since he started,” Hart told Today.com. “We never thought of him as an interruption over this medical thing.”
