AMC found itself in hot water with fans of “The Walking Dead” Sunday night after posting a photo on social media that revealed the death of a main character.

The problem? The photo was posted after the series’ midseason finale aired on the East Coast, but had yet to air on the West Coast.

Fans who hadn’t watched the show were miffed.

The next day, the network posted an apology on the show’s official Facebook page.

“We heard your feedback to last night’s post, and we’re sorry,” the post read. “With zero negative intent, we jumped the gun and put up a spoiler. Please know we’re going to work to ensure that, in the future, possible spoilers by official AMC social feeds are killed before they can infect, certainly before the West Coast (U.S.) broadcast of The Walking Dead. As always, thank you for watching, and keep the comments coming. We appreciate all of your support. #RIPSpoiler”

As of Tuesday morning the post had drawn more than 275,000 likes, along with comments ranging from “You know, you could make up for it with a new sneak peek from February…” to “Apology accepted only if you don’t kill off Daryl.”

The snafu didn’t seem to affect ratings, as a record 14.8 million viewers tuned in, a 23% increase from last season.

The series is set to return on February 8.
