CUMBERLAND, Maryland — Police were busy Wednesday afternoon investigating a reported “planned assault” at an area high school.

“Late this afternoon several students at Fort Hill High School reported to school administrators rumors of an alleged planned assault against a certain student,” read an e-mail to the Times-News from the Allegany County Board of Education at about 2:10 p.m.

According to the board, “Cumberland City Police are conducting an investigation and working with school system staff to secure and dismiss students safely this afternoon.”

The board also noted that there might be delays in the dismissal of students, including those who drive or ride the bus.

“Students who walk will be retained in the school for parent pick-up or until Cumberland City Police advise their release,” the statement concluded.
