GREENSBORO — Legendary former University of Georgia football coach and athletic director Vince Dooley recently visited the Lake Oconee area to support the LOCC Youth Alliance (YA) fund raising efforts.

Dooley was greeted by many avid Bulldog fans as well as representatives from both Greene and Putnam LOCC Youth Alliance. He was most gracious in signing personal memorabilia that some of the fans had brought. Many of the Dawg fans bought one of his books and he personalized each book according to individual requests.

To thank him for this visit and support, representatives of the LOCC YA presented Coach Dooley with a framed photo colleague of Youth Alliance Students. In turn Coach Dooley presented students of Putnam and Greene County with autographed footballs. The YA students will present their signed footballs to their respective High School teams and insure the football is on display for all to enjoy in years to come.

The LOCC YA, Silver Moon Charity of the Month for October, is in its fifth year of working with children from the underserved communities in Greensboro, Union Point and Eatonton. The program includes a four-week summer “learning and activities” program for over 150 children. Throughout the school year, the youth are mentored and have their grades tracked. Celebrations, such as movies and other community activities, are held to celebrate scholastic improvement.
