GCHS DECA members competed in DECA’s Region IX competition on Jan. 22 in Augusta. Students participated in a variety of competitions related to Marketing, Business Administration, Hospitality and Tourism, Finance, and Job Interview. Most students took an online test earlier in the week and then had the performance portion of the competition. Many students were able to use their work experience as well as experiences in the classroom to help them in their competitions. Five of the ten students competing placed in the top two of their event and will be advancing to compete at State in February. DECA’s State Career Development Conference will be held on Feb. 26-28 at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta. DECA is a student organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools around the globe. This is GCHS’s first DECA chapter.
