GREENSBORO — Festival Hall, located in historic Greensboro is pleased to announce its partnership with the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) in bringing the first children’s summer camp of it’s kind to Greensboro. The camp is scheduled for the week of July 20- 25, and will provide an exceptional theatrical experience for 60 Greene County campers ranging from rising second-graders to 12th grade students.
The camp will begin with an audition for the MCT production of CINDERELLA, Monday, July 20 Festival Hall. Among the roles to be cast are Cinderella; her two stepsisters; the Stepmother; the Fairy Godmother; the King; the Prince; Cleo the Cat; Fido the Dog; Beggars; Lords and Ladies; Mice; and Pumpkins. No advance preparation is necessary. Assistant Directors will also be cast to aid in rehearsals throughout the week and to take on essential backstage responsibilities.
The MCT touring productions are complete with costumes, scenery, props, and makeup. MCT Tour Actor/Directors will conduct rehearsals throughout the week from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 11:45 a.m. each day. Campers will then break for lunch, followed by hands-on enrichment classes such as set production, theatre marketing, and more. All classes will be centered on the elements necessary to effectively produce a theatrical production. This schedule allows campers to experience all aspects of theatre during the week. CINDERELLA will be presented on Saturday, July 26 at Festival Hall during two performances, a 3 p.m. matinee, and 5:30 p.m.
“We are thrilled to offer this extraordinary opportunity to the children of Greene County. When the Festival Hall Board of Governors initially decided to pursue a summer camp program, we all agreed we wanted to provide a professional and enlightening experience for the kids. We wanted kids to have fun and learn all about what it takes to put on an actual production,” said Cynthia Smith, Festival Hall Board of Governors, Chair. “After a lot of research, we came across the Missoula Children’s Theatre. What they have to offer our community really impressed us. We knew right away that a partnership with MCT was a win, win situation for Festival Hall and the families of Greene County,” said Smith.
Space for the CINDERELLA Summer Camp is limited to 60 campers and is $150 per camper for the week and includes two complimentary tickets to one Saturday performance. Additional tickets will be available for purchase at $10 for adults and $5 for students. Campers will attend Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 1 p.m. to the conclusion of the 5:30 p.m. performance. Festival Hall and the Missoula Children’s Theatre require attendance for the entirety of the camp, as all campers will need to be present during preparation for the performance.
