Lake Oconee Fishing Forecast, Thursday, April 16, 2015
Published 8:00 am Thursday, April 16, 2015
Lake Conditions – The lake has heavy stain up the rivers and with all the rains this week the entire lake will likely see stained water for some time.
Lake Water Temperature – 68-73 degrees
Largemouth Bass – GOOD – The fish have moved into the coves in good numbers and are spawning. Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jigs and even Trick worms are good around docks, wood and any rocks in the coves. Some of the fish have moved all the way to the very backs of the coves. Spawning will last for the next 2-3 weeks.
Crappie – GOOD – The fish are in the coves and creeks and are being caught by trolling (pushing and pulling) dark colored jigs due to the heavily stained water. Spawning is virtually over but the fish remain close to spawning areas as they rest up before relocating to deeper water. The crappie are still relating to shallow water especially around docks where shooting jigs will produce good catches now that the spawn is completed.
Striped Bass/White Bass/Hybrid Bass – Good – More fish are now showing up in front of the Wallace Dam where live bait is best but trolling will also produce some fish.
Catfish – NO REPORT
