Florida couple steals more than $200 worth of meat from grocery store

A couple was arrested on grand theft and robbery charges after authorities say they stole more than $200 worth of meat from a Central Florida grocery store.
According to Volusia County Sheriff deputies, Doris Rowe, 48, and Kenneth Edwards, 54, drove to a DeLand, Fla., Winn-Dixie grocery store where Rowe was spotted by management stuffing packed meat products and other items into her pants, as reported by The Daytona Beach News-Journal.
Deputies reported that after she was approached by the store’s manager, Rowe hit the man in the neck, dropping pork ribs, two packs of detergent and three water filters from her person, totaling in excess of $100, according to police reports.
Shortly after the incident, Rowe bounded from the store and dove head-first into Edward’s car as the couple fled the scene. Both Rowe and Edwards were caught soon after at a traffic stop in the area.
According to the News-Journal, deputies found five ribeye steaks valued at $123.24, two 3-pound packs of ground beef valued at $23.94, four packs of bacon valued at $43.99, two packs of pork ribs valued at $31.09 and a $2.49 gallon of bleach strewn throughout the getaway car during their search.
Official police reports value the total of the stolen, mostly meat, grocery items at $361.31.The manager of the Winn-Dixie store told deputies that he wished to press charges. Both Rowe and Edwards face grand theft and robbery charges and each is presently being held on $20,000 bail.
