Police arrested the suspect of a high-speed chase through eight Texas counties after a trooper shot a tire and the radiator.

LUFKIN, Tx. — Police say an East Texas man is in custody after he was involved in an hour-long chase that involved eight law enforcement agencies, covered three counties and included chain saws being tossed at an officer by the fleeing driver.

Authorities say 27-year-old Richard Kay finally was caught after troopers shot out two of his tires and the radiator of his pickup truck.

According to reports, the chase began around 5:10 p.m. Sunday when the police tried to stop Kay for speeding. Instead, Kay drove off from the traffic stop.

According to Lufkin Police, Kay drove the white Chevy truck onto a field, where he preceded to do donuts before letting out his passenger in the truck, 35-year-old Dennis Arceneaux. He was arrested and taken to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

The chase escalated soon after with speeds reaching 100 mph. Police tell Lufkin television station KTRE that at one point Kay threw chain saws, believed to have been stolen in a home burglary, at an Angelina County, Texas sheriff’s deputy.

As Kay sped through Lufkin, troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety shot out one of the tires on the Chevy. Yet, Kay kept driving close to 70 mph, according to officials.

It wasn’t until a second tire and the radiator were shot out that the chase finally came to an end around 6:20 p.m.

Kay told authorities he’d taken methamphetamine and prescription drugs. He’s now facing multiple charges.
