Lake Oconee Fishing Forecast, Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015
Published 8:00 am Thursday, August 6, 2015
Lake Conditions – The lake is clear to lightly stained.
Lake Water Temperature – 88-90 degrees
Largemouth Bass – FAIR/GOOD – Two patterns are working now. One pattern will work early in the day until the bright sun is out. That pattern consist primarily of fishing the deep docks or shoreline structure with a topwater bait like a buzzbait, Devil Horse or toss a shakey head under the docks or in the shade of deeper docks. After the sun is out move to deeper water (8-18 feet) like humps and ledges down lake and use a Carolina rigged Trick worm or cast a deep diving crankbait (Strike King 5XD/6XD/10XD). When water current is present you can also try a deep diving crankbait around the bridges.
Crappie – GOOD –The crappie have migrated back to brushpiles and underwater timber in deeper water. Fishing jigs/ minnows over and in the timber and brushpiles will catch fish now. Good fishing is occurring at night also.
Striped Bass/White Bass/Hybrid Bass – FAIR/Good –The topwater bite from schooling fish is happening during the first couple hours of daylight using a popping cork rig, a spoon or a white Rooster Tail. Trolling umbrella rigs during the reminder of the day might get you some bites.
Catfish – GOOD – The catfish have moved to main lake/creek ledges and channels and those will be good locations throughout the summer months. Live bait (shad/bream) and cut bait (shad/bream) are good baits to catch larger fish. The fish will also move to shallower water at night to feed.
