The Knights of Columbus Council 13808 held their Charity Car Raffle drawing celebration, for all ticket buyers, on Columbus Day, Monday, October 12, 2015 at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church. Approximately 100 guests were in attendance for the drawing of the grand prize of a two-year lease of a 2015 Chevrolet Impala, or equivalent automobile or $10,000. The winner was Henry Karwisch of Eatonton, GA and his sister Margaret Karwisch of Lakewood, CA. Henry and Margaret elected to take the $10,000 in lieu of the car. The five $200 winners included Teaunee Duran of Tempe, AZ, Bryce Dejno of Bishop, GA, Bone Island GrillHouse of Eatonton, GA, Marlene Cullum of San Antonio, TX and Tom O’Brien of Ellerton, FL who donated his winning back to the Charity Raffle for local charities.

The Knights of Columbus is a local council of an international fraternal benefits society that was founded in 1882 on the principals of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism and has grown to 14,000 councils and 1.8 million members worldwide. In 2014 worldwide donations reached $73,000,000 and 72,000 volunteer hours. The local council donated $34,000 and more than 27,000 volunteer service hours to local charities in Greene, Putnam & Hancock Counties. The Knights are well known for passing out Tootsie Rolls and Keeping Christ in Christmas bracelets. They minister to prisoners, unload trucks at the local food banks, and conduct free throw contests and soccer penalty shot youth competitions. The local Council manages the largest Red Cross Blood Drive in the local area and partners with the St. Vincent DePaul Society on many other charitable activities.
