Lake Oconee Fishing Forecast, Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015
Published 8:00 am Thursday, December 31, 2015
Lake Conditions – The main lake is muddy to heavily stained from all the recent rain. All fishing is being impacted by the high and stained/muddy water conditions.
Lake Water Temperature – 54-57
Largemouth Bass – FAIR – The fish are still in the coves and the creeks. The docks, seawalls, rocky banks and shoreline woody structure will produce fish on crankbaits that imitate shad. Spinnerbaits and jigs have been best but small crankbaits have also been good. A number of other baits will catch fish now as the fish feed up on shad. With the stained water chartreuse continues to be the best color.
Crappie – GOOD –The crappie are in the brushpiles and underwater timber that is in or near the mouths of coves. Anglers trolling over timber at the mouths of larger coves and in the coves are catching fish. Chartreuse jigs have been the best color. Anglers are also catching fish using small spoons (laser blade) and minnows on or near the bottom in 20 foot of water near channel drops in the coves.
Striped Bass/White Bass/Hybrid Bass – GOOD –The fish are in the coves and creeks feeding heavily on shad. Jigging spoons and live bait are the best choices now. The water conditions will likely have a negative impact on angler success for several days.
Catfish – NO REPORT.
