- Postell announces candidacy
GREENSBORO – Greensboro City Manager Larry Postell is pleased to announce his Republican Candidacy for Greene County Sheriff. With 28 years of law enforcement experience, Postell brings a unique perspective to the public safety of Greene County.
Postell began his law enforcement career in 1987 as a Greene County Police officer. He played an instrumental roll in establishing the Ocmulgee Drug Task Force where he worked as an Undercover Agent and later as interim Director for the multi-jurisdictional agency covering Greene, Baldwin, Morgan, Putnam, Hancock, Jones, Jasper and Wilkerson counties. In 1991, Postell returned to Greene County to form the highly effective Tri-County Narcotics Unit. There, Postell worked organized crime as a sworn Deputy United States Marshal and prosecuted felony crimes in the United States Court for the Middle District of Georgia. Postell was appointed the Chief of Police for the City of Greensboro in 1992 and maintained this leadership role for eleven years. Currently, Larry Postell serves as the City Manager of Greensboro directing the Police, Fire, Street, Water, Sewer and Natural Gas Departments, as well as Greensboro’s portion of the Tri-County Natural Gas extension to Lake Oconee.
“Working as a law enforcement officer in Greene County and the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit for many years, I’ve seen first-hand the criminal activity in this community up close. I know our strengths and I’ve seen our weaknesses. I have an intimate understanding of the socioeconomic diversity in Greene County and I have a firm commitment to the most cost efficient and effective way to provide public safety for our county,” said, Postell. “I have a strong dislike for where the National Lawmakers are currently positioning our society and what this means for all of our futures. As Sheriff of Greene County, I plan on fostering a viable partnership with the community in addressing all factors adversely impacting the public’s safety. I believe a collaborative approach with citizen participation is the key to preventing, detecting and solving crime in today’s society.”
Larry Postell holds a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia Southern University and a Masters Degree in Public Administration/Criminal Justice from Columbus State University. He and his wife, Sharon of Atlanta, reside in Greensboro and are members of the River of Life Church in Eatonton where Postell serves as an elder.
The Primary Vote is scheduled for May 24, 2016. To learn more about Larry Postell and his campaign visit http://Postell4Sheriff.works or follow him on Facebook at https://facebook.com/Postell4Sheriff.
