“Protein Pantry” established at Putnam Christian Outreach

All Angels Episcopal Church members are excited and busy as they begin to stock a “Protein Pantry” at Putnam Christian Outreach (PCO) Like many other Putnam County churches , All Angels has regularly contributed canned goods and other items to the Putnam Christian Outreach food pantry for distribution to local families and individuals needing assistance.

However, even with contributions, the food pantry at PCO has struggled to provide a sufficient amount and variety of protein rich foods. When All Angels members became aware of this problem, they applied for grant funds being offered by Appleton Episcopal Ministries (AEM), a social outreach ministry of The Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta. On receipt of $6000 from Appleton, All Angels members promptly went shopping to establish the “Protein Pantry”. Plans are to purchase approximately $500 worth of protein rich food per month for PCO in 2016.

After their first trip to The Middle GA Community Food Bank with PCO Director Vanessa

Jackson and her husband Deck, church members were tired but thrilled with their new

purchasing power. A dollar goes a long way at the Food Bank! The small church also feels blessed and grateful to be a grant recipient. The funding from Appleton Episcopal Ministries has enabled a partnership with PCO that will directly benefit families and individuals in Putnam County.

Appleton Episcopal Ministries is the oldest social outreach ministry of the Episcopal Church in middle and north GA. Founded in 1870 in Macon, it has been an orphanage, a farm, a therapeutic outdoor program and an after-school program. Recently it has been restructured and re-purposed, continuing a rich tradition of serving children and families in middle GA. Putnam Christian Outreach was founded in 1987 by local churches with the goal of providing assistance for Putnam County residents in need. Through the years it has upgraded and expanded and now operates a large thrift store and provides assistance with food, clothing, disaster relief, prescription medications, medical equipment, utilities and rent. The goal of PCO is to “exemplify Jesus Christ by assisting neighbors with caring hands and loving hearts”.
