Six generations of the Presley Family and three generations of the Lankford family have lived and worked in Putnam County, Georgia. Brothers Randy and Hugh Presley were looking for a way to accomplish three charitable goals. They wanted to commemorate their parents in a way that honors their lives and works, to create a perpetual benefit for young people of Putnam County who would pursue an education that will lead them into lives of productive and fruitful endeavor, and to create a perpetual benefit for Putnam County churches and other organizations that were important in their parents’ lives.
After researching several options, the brothers selected the Community Foundation of Central Georgia to help them accomplish their objectives. They said that CFCG listened to their desires, and helped them create a Donor Advised Fund and a Scholarship Fund to be consistent with their parent’s values. They also felt like CFCG’s approach to stewardship of money was consistent with their values.
The David Leon and Love Lankford Presley Scholarship Fund is open to graduates of Putnam County High School and Gatewood School. Each year, the fund will provide a college scholarship to a Putnam County graduate who has demonstrated a willingness and initiative to engage in some productive and fruitful endeavor during their high school career. The scholarship application is open and the deadline to apply is noon March 15. For more information, please go to www.cfcga.org/presley.
An additional benefit of the brothers establishing two charitable funds at the Community Foundation of Central Georgia is that Putnam County is now included in CFCG’s service delivery area. That means that CFCG can help other donors in Putnam County with their personal philanthropy and nonprofit organizations in Putnam County are now eligible to apply for competitive grants from the Community Foundation of Central Georgia. The Presley brothers said, “we strongly believe that inclusion of Putnam County as a community served by CFCG will bring additional benefits to the community.” For more information on CFCG’s competitive grant programs, please visit http://www.cfcga.org/grant.
The Presley brothers said, “it is a humbling experience to discover in yourself a giving heart. Then further to find an organization that can align with your wishes and provide a means to make your giving perpetual is extraordinarily rewarding.”
They encourage others to take a good look at CFCG to determine if this may be the right path to meet their memorial or charitable objectives.
